The Americas Model United Nations was the first Model UN established in Brazil, since 1998, hosted by Universidade de Brasília.

Dear students, alumni, professors and AMUN enthusiasts,

I feel extremely honored to invite you all to the 14ᵗʰ edition of the Americas Model United Nations, to be held on July 25-29, 2011, in Brasília, Brazil.

Models United Nations (MUNs) are important projects developed throughout the world. They aim at enhancing student’s capabilities to discuss topics of the international agenda. Mainly undergraduates, these students gather in conferences to solve challenges faced by the international community. MUNs represent great experiences of apprenticeship for their staffs, also composed by students who invest their time and effort to put the events together.

AMUN is proud of being the very founder of the MUN Culture in Brazil. In 1998, students from Universidade de Brasília brought the first edition of AMUN into reality. Nowadays, there are numerous MUNs in Brazil and this is a true AMUN’s legacy. The 2011 edition will be the 14^th of a Model which is considered the most traditional in the country, taking place in a real diplomatic and political environment, the Brazilian capital, Brasília. Located in the very center of Brazil, AMUN is capable of gathering students from all of the country’s regions. AMUN has also a long tradition of bringing foreign delegations taking part in the event. It constitutes a very valuable opportunity of cultural and academic exchange.

Over the years, AMUN’s editions have always posed challenges to their delegates, judges and officials. They can be glanced in our past editions pages. Even though the paths for reaching agreements might have been different, the ultimate goal of all discussions remained the same: to build a fair, safe and harmonious international community.

This year, our staff’s and delegates’ efforts will be guided by the ideal of the construction of a international system more sensitive to the important role played by individuals. For this matter, the UN concept of Human Security will give our tone of discussion.

This website is aimed at being the main channel of information for AMUNers and all interested publics. It contains not only conference information and topics to be discussed, but also news related to our social and environmental responsibility, as well as our blog.
