After some research, a great deal of negotiation and then still some bargaining, AMUN 2009's official hotel is now confirmed: the five-star Hotel Nacional, located in the heart of Brasília, in the South Hotel Sector (Setor Hoteleiro Sul), and also conveniently near the conference site.

Aware of the raised eyebrows that prices and fees usually cause, we have put some special effort into lowering them. Below is a table with room prices:

Hotel Nacional is not just yet another hotel in the bustling, sprawling hotel sector of Brasília. It is unique in that it is an important part of the history of the city, which was just celebrating its first year of existence on the day the hotel was opened. Unlike the newest, newfangled hotels, its architecture is reminiscing of that of the 60s, which is still very common in the city's south wing neighborhood (Asa Sul).

Throughout all these 47 years, the hotel has witnessed many things: the desert landscape was transformed into an urban setting with high-rise buildings and over 2 million people who have arrived and settled in the city; important people like Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, ex-presidents Jimmy Carter from the USA and Antônio Eanes from Portugal among many other heads of state have stayed at the hotel.

Hotel Nacional is not just about history - it's about comfort, too. As far as room service, decoration and facilities go, the hotel is hardly rivaled - after all, more than 40 years of existence and notable guests who have stayed there can attest to that. It offers restaurants, bars, swimming pool with sauna, a beauty parlor, a gym, and much more.

Our Advice

Delegates coming from other parts of Brazil and abroad are thus strongly recommended to stay there. Not only does the hotel have its advantages, we have also compiled a list of reasons to do so:

  • Brasília is not a cheap city. Cost of living is relatively high (more info - from UN website).
  • The hotel sector is comprised of two parts, north and south, and is quite large. Thus, being in the hotel sector doesn't necessarily mean you'll be near the conference venue.
  • The hotel will be an important place to socialize with fellow delegates. Even if you're not the gregarious type, this will be an amazing opportunity to get to know people from countries as diverse as France and Kenya.
  • Public transportation is Brasília's Achilles' heel. Our transportation to and from the official hotel will surely come in handy.
